American Book
Because of the success of his Canadian book, Ian started writing a book of stories about American veterans who endured ordeals in the air war against Germany and Japan.
George McGovern, the Democratic party's presidential candidate in 1972, was one of the many American aviators Ian interviewed. Mr. McGovern survived several ordeals, including one when he landed a B-24 bomber that had 110 holes from anti-aircraft fire. Ian also interviewed Jim Landis, who was wounded while climbing into a plane at the naval |
air base on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Despite his injury, Mr. Landis managed to fire at the Japanese planes. For the same chapter, Ian interviewed Harold Snider, a navigator on one of the B-17s that landed in Hawaii during the attack.
Among the other veterans Ian interviewed are a Doolittle Raider who parachuted into China, a Tuskegee airman who was shot down and a WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) who crash-landed while ferrying a plane to Montana.
Sterling Publishing of New York released Ian's book in November 2016. It is entitled Heroes in the Skies: American Aviators in World War II. It is available at your favourite bookstore or through online bookstores such as Barnes & Noble, Amazon and IndieBound.
